When I found out I was pregnant with my third child, I knew I wanted a homebirth. After having two hospital births I knew there was a better way and a more relaxing way for birth than laying on my back with bright lights and loud noises all around me. I started looking online for midwives in the Rapid City area. I found Luanne’s information and I contacted her. She was so kind and very knowledgeable. She really cared about my health and my baby’s health.
Luanne came to my house and stayed with me the entire labor. She walked around with me to help get the contractions stronger, she patiently waited through every contraction, she rubbed my back for me, and she encouraged me the entire time. She knew exactly what I would need to help with labor and to encourage me through the pain. She was very calm the entire time and just let me do what my body was telling me to do. Once I was in transition, she was so sweet and let me know I could get into the birthing tub if I wanted.
When my son’s head was born, Luanne calmly told me to get on my hands and knees because his shoulder was stuck. She was able to get him out without any distress or harm done to my baby or me. (My oldest son, who was born in the hospital, also had the same issue and it was handled completely differently and it was more traumatizing for him and me.) I was very pleased with the way Luanne handled the situation.
After the birth, Luanne helped me get into my bed, she very thoroughly checked my son and me to make sure we were well. Luanne’s newborn exam was much more thorough than what my other two boys had received at the hospital. After she knew we were good, Luanne let us rest for the night.
I was so pleased with the care I received during my pregnancy, labor, and post-partum. I also enjoyed getting to know Luanne and feel like she is my friend. I wish I had my other two boys at home as well. It was an amazing experience that I am so thankful I had.
